The Mallee Emu-wren is a tiny bird, only 15 centimetres long. But it'sfilamentous tail can be up to 1.5 times the length of its body! Since the Murray Mallee Region in South Australia and Victoria is its only habitat, fires have recently destroyed much of it. The conservation effort is working but another fire could put the Emu-wren on a path to extinction.
Birdlife Australia stands together to stop extinctions. We are supporting Birdlife Australia and their mission by donating 10% of sales from eachEmu-WrenMetalbird sold, the 2nd bird in our BirdLife Australia Collection.
The trick to finding this shy species is to find large unburned patches of spinifex, listening carefully for the species’ very thin, faint calls.
