As icons go, the Sulphur Crested Cockatoo would have to be in the medals when it came to the 'preferred pirate accessories' category when crossed over with 'bird'. As they're often kept in captivity, I'm sure we've all had an awkward brush with a Cockatoo using mistimed colourful language which leaves us personally with the lasting impression that their cussing is better left in the wild. Cockatoos are social by nature choosing to maraud in large groups that can number in their hundreds. This grouping combined with their loud calls and vocalisations can produce quite the aural assault when they choose to perch in the local parks' leafy trees to avoid the hottest part of the Australian day, and the excretion danger - let's not even go there.
The wily Cockatoo loves to eat tubers, fruit, flowers and insects but has figured out that farmers and their associated seed make for an easily obtained snack. As such, not the farmers favourite and we've even heard the word 'pest' whispered in some farming circles to which we say "shame on you!"
It is produced from 3mm Corten steel and will rust quite happily to a rich brown.
All Metalbirds we stock at Blackbird Corner are made in Melbourne, Australia.
